First meeting writing meme

So I was operating on four hours sleep, the best time for ideas. When I thought to myself about how characters meet and forge relationships. Sometimes the meeting is formality, sometimes it's the start of awesome, or really embarrassing. Sometimes you forget you even met them and do introductions over again (sup Soka!).
I needed something to get me back into the random jumping others niche. Anyway, so I figured on a prompt. Give me one of your characters who hasn't met one of mine, and I'll write out a possible first meeting between them. Or if we totally forgot their first meeting and think it would be a funny revisitation. I'm easy like that.

Date: 2007-05-26 04:12 am (UTC)Ico liked 'camp' more than the castle back home. For one, there were less angry monsters trying to kill him. The ones here weren't much trouble. One good hit with a stick and they went down in a shuddering heap. And the nicest thing was if he asked for help sometimes people might show up. There were a lot of people who made it their jobs to take care of others, and Ico thought it was nice that all those responsibities didn't fall on him for once.
So when camp announced the next 'Shounen Tournament' he was dismayed to learn his name was on the list. A good thing was they were assigned partners, so maybe he would end up with the strong nice ones. Or Glinda. He liked her too.
"Hello?" Ico asked the darkness, griping his stick.
"Hello," responded a calm voice, and a youthful looking boy stepped out. He spoke softly, but didn't carry a big stick. Ico was confused.
"Hi. Are you going to try to eat my brains?" he asked timid, but politely. Because it would be rude to hit someone who hadn't threatened to kill you yet.
The boy shook his head. "No. Are you going to try and eat my heart?"
"No!" Ico protested. "I think we're supposed to be partners. Do you want to try and get out of here before they set the monsters on us?"
"All right," the boy responded blithely. As if he asked him the time.
"I have a stick," Ico offered lamely. "Um, do you know how to face monsters?"
"I'm a prince who fought them endlessly."
"Oh!" Ico smiled. "So you can help take care of them!"
"No. I forgot."
"...oh." Ico wanted to ask how you could forget such a thing but he didn't know if that would be rude or not.
Looking at the boy again he didn't seem particularly daring. Not that he was scared or trembling. Well, and the cravat and ruffled sleeves weren't his idea of manly but. He just...looked really sad.
Ico sighed to himself and offered his hand. "It's okay, I'll get us out of here."
The boy regarded it before taking it. "All right. Thank you."
"Congratulations Ico! Your princess is in another castle, but way to accomodate to camp gender stereotypes!" a little man with a toadstool for a hat announced.
The boy blinked. Ico hit it with his stick. "Ignore that."
